Creative Art Workshops - Saturdays with Danielle Doucet
Throughout the classes, Danielle will offer individualized guidance, demonstrations, and insight, helping each participant refine their artistic voice and explore new approaches.
These 3-hour classes are open to artists of all levels who wish to deepen their practice and reconnect with their creative momentum.

Saturday, March 21, 2026 Theme: Embracing the Gesture
A workshop focused on spontaneity and freedom in painting. Participants explore intuitive mark-making, movement, and gesture without preliminary drawing, reconnecting with the pleasure of painting.

Saturday, April 18, 2026 Theme: Colour in Motion
Colour becomes the driving force of the composition. This session explores contrast, layering, and rhythm to energize the painted surface through expressive use of colour.

Saturday, May 9, 2026 Theme: Painting Without a Safety Net
An exploration of trust in the creative process. Through intuitive decisions and repeated gestures, participants build confidence and allow a personal visual language to emerge.

Saturday, June 13, 2026 Theme: Painting for Pleasure
A lighter, more playful workshop marking the end of the spring season. The focus is on curiosity, fluid exploration, and enjoyment, without pressure to produce a finished piece.

A structured return after the summer break. Participants clarify intention, refine composition, and re-establish a regular painting practice for the fall season.

A more introspective workshop focusing on texture, layering, and time in painting. Participants explore materiality to build richer and more nuanced images.

Saturday, November 14, 2026 Theme: Bringing the Work Together
The final workshop of the year. A moment to consolidate learning, refine works in progress, and reflect on continuity in one’s artistic practice, supported by group discussion.

Participants are responsible for bringing their own supplies. If needed, supplies can be provided for an additional cost of $20. Please email [email protected] if you are in need of supplies. Bring what you have on hand. Do not spend too much on products or supplies (except for good quality paint).
If you are using Watercolour
- Plastic to cover your work area,
- Paintbrush, or any tool you can mark your paper with to create shape or texture, plastic card, fork, etc.
- 2 Yogurt containers for water
- Egg cartons, plastic, or ice tray, if you want to dilute your paints to make washes(optional)
- Plate or flat tray to mix your colours,
- Watercolour paper 140 pounds and up Strathmore is a good choice and well priced, not too small.
- Support for your paper. Board, Masonite or plexiglass (thin), all one inch bigger than your sheet.
- Masking tape to mount your paper on your support
- 3 Basic colors, ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, alizarin red or cadmium red. (minimum)
- Rags and/or paper towels
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Plastic to cover your work area,
- Paintbrush synthetic, or any tool you can mark your paper with to create shape or texture, plastic card, fork, etc.
- Anything you have that can scrape and move paint on a surface...
- Paper for exercises (110 pounds minimum, cover 110 pd 8x10)
- Watercolour paper or, Canvas. Watercolour paper 140 pounds and up Strathmore is a good choice and well priced, not too small.
- If using paper: Support for your paper. Board, Masonite or plexiglass (thin), all one inch bigger than your sheet.
- 1. Masking tape to mount your paper on your support
- Minimum of 3 Basic colors, ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, alizarin red or cadmium red.
- All colors are transparent if possible.
- Rags and/or paper towels
- Scissors
About the Instructor
Danielle Doucet is a multidisciplinary professional artist who has been teaching at Jack Purcell since 2001. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, scholarships, and grants. She serves on a jury for art galleries, the City of Gatineau, and several recognized project spaces in Quebec and Ontario. Heavily involved in the artistic community, Danielle has been an associate in a self-managed gallery, sits on boards of directors, and is the first President of Les Ateliers du Ruisseau. She is a professional member of RAAV/CARFAC.
